Getting the right support through the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) should be easy for everyone. If you have trouble with English or communicating, help is available through a number of NDIS Interprester Services. Interpreter and translator services can make sure you understand your NDIS options and get the support you need.
How to Get an Interpreter
If you speak a language other than English, an interpreter can help you communicate with the NDIS. The Translating and Interpreting Service (TIS National) provides interpreters for free. They have more than 3,000 certified interpreters who speak over 160 languages.
To use an interpreter:
- Call TIS National on 131 450.
- Ask them to connect you to the NDIS at 1800 800 110.
How NDIS Interpreter Services Help with Your Plan
You can use an interpreter to help you understand and use your NDIS plan. They can assist you in meetings, over the phone, or in person. This service is free and will not reduce your NDIS funding.
You can also:
- Request a specific interpreter (for example, someone of a certain gender).
- Ask your NDIS provider or support coordinator to arrange an interpreter for you.
If you are a registered NDIS provider, you can sign up with TIS National to access funded interpreter services for your clients.
