Witness the remarkable journey of Casey*, a resilient 10-year-old Aboriginal young person who continues to triumph and succeed with the support of Ability Assist.
Casey’s path was challenging, marked by minimal family connections and disengagement from essential activities like broader social interactions, healthy eating, and attendance at school.
At Ability Assist, we believe in the inherent strength of every individual. Guided by this principle, Casey became the architect of his own journey, with Ability Assist serving as a steadfast companion on his path to growth.
Through our collaborative ABILITY PLUS Care Model, Casey received tailored support from a dedicated team of 13 professionals who stood by his side as he navigated challenges and embraced opportunities for change. Through this approach, Casey was encouraged to engage with how the house was set up and explore activities that aligned with his interests.

With courage and resilience, Casey embarked on a journey of self-discovery, empowered to make decisions and pursue his passions. Alongside the support of Ability Assist, Casey forged healthier habits, shed 15kg, and found renewed joy in physical activities like rugby and swimming.
Academically, Casey flourished, reclaiming his place in mainstream education with the encouragement of Ability Assist and local education partners. His participation in school activities, including a campaign for a leadership position, reflects his resilience and determination to succeed.

Beyond personal achievements, Casey reconnected with family, formed meaningful friendships, and embraced new experiences with confidence and optimism.
At Ability Assist, fostering culturally safe and inclusive care is paramount. That’s why we work hand in hand with an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation (ACCO) to ensure Casey’s journey is rooted in cultural understanding and respect. This collaboration ensures seamless continuity of care, empowering Casey to thrive in an environment that honours his heritage and identity and sets the stage for ongoing support and growth.
Casey’s story is a testament to his strength and perseverance. At Ability Assist, we are humbled to have played a role in his journey, providing support and encouragement as he embraced change and realised his potential.
