Ability Assist has multiple vacancies available for qualified and experienced Youth Residential Support Workers to undertake casual shifts supporting young people based in the Western and Northern Suburbs.

We are seeking candidates who possess a deep sense of compassion and a genuine desire to make a positive impact in the lives of young people. Ideal candidates will be able to provide emotional support, build trust, rapport and role model positive behaviours.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing support and fostering engagement with a young person who has complex needs and behaviours of concern.
  • Providing active support to a young person, within their home and out in the community to assist them in developing independence and improving their quality of life.
  • Supporting and encouraging a young person to participate in a range of day-to-day activities based on their hobbies, interests and goals.
  • Ensuring the safety of the young person and fostering an environment that supports their well-being and development.
  • Attending to domestic duties including preparing meals and cleaning as required.
  • Transporting clients to and from a range of different activities and services as required.
  • Attending Team Meetings

About you

  • Flexibility to work a range of casual shifts across a 24 hour period, 7 days per week.
  • Experience working with young people with complex needs and behaviours of concern.
  • Experience working with young people with disability would be advantageous.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with clients and various stakeholders.
  • Must be compassionate, considerate, empathetic, and sensitive to the needs of the client.
  • Ability to provide emotional support and capable of building trust and rapport with clients.
  • Strong problem solving and decision-making skills with the ability to work well under pressure.
  • Strong level of resilience.

To be considered for these vacancies, you must have:

  • A minimum of a Certificate IV in Child, Youth & Family Intervention, or an equivalent qualification, in addition to the completion of all four mandatory units of competency for residential care workers.

The role will require the candidate to have:

  • Full Victorian Drivers’ Licence.
  • Employee Working with Children Check (employee) (or willingness to obtain).
  • NDIS Worker Screening check (or willingness to obtain).
  • First Aid and CPR Certificate (or willingness to obtain).
  • Police Check (or willingness to obtain)
  • Ability to safely transport clients. Use of personal vehicle may be required (km’s reimbursed).
  • Car Insurance.
